Plumptre Disowns Fake Facebook Account Accusing NFF Officials Of Demanding Bribe

Date:

Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has distanced herself from a Facebook account impersonating her and making allegations that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials demanded bribe from her.

The Facebook page bearing Plumptre’s name claimed that she had been dropped from the Super Falcons squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) because she allegedly refused the demands made by some “corrupt officials.”

The post stated that Plumptre was considering taking a “step back” from the national team due to the purported bribery demands.

The claims quickly gained attention online, with many social media users reacting to the allegations against NFF officials. The Facebook page, which appears verified and has more than 2,000 followers, continued to attract engagement despite questions about its authenticity.

Reacting to the post, Plumptre on Tuesday denied the claims, stating that the Facebook account was fake.

Taking to her verified Instagram account, which has over 130,000 followers, the 28-year-old urged fans and supporters to report the impersonating accounts.

“Please report and block these fake Facebook accounts. They’re running riot for real 😪😪 🚨🚨 I don’t even use Facebook,” Plumptre wrote.

Born in Leicester, England, Plumptre opted to represent Nigeria through her Nigerian grandfather and made her debut for the Super Falcons in 2021.

She made her first appearance at the WAFCON in 2022 where the Super Falcons placed fourth, after losing to Zambia 1-0 in the third-placed match.

The former Leicester City star was part of the Falcons side that reached the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup.

After missing the Paris 2024 Olympics due to injury, Plumptre was back in the Falcons squad that won the WAFCON title in the same year in Morocco.
