World Cup 2026: Fate Would Have Been Cruel To Spain Had They Lost Title — Iroha

Date:

Former Nigeria defender Ben Iroha has declared that Spain were worthy winners of the FIFA World Cup 2026, insisting that “fate would have been cruel to Spain if they had lost to Argentina in Sunday night’s final,” Completesports.com reports.

World Cup 2026: Spain Dominate Final Despite Martínez Heroics

Spain were the dominant side from start to finish but were repeatedly denied by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who caught, kicked, parried and punched away every effort with astonishing reflexes, composure and concentration. His outstanding display kept Argentina in the contest, which stretched into extra time before Ferran Torres scored the decisive winner in the 106th minute.

Iroha Hails Spain’s Outstanding World Cup 2026 Campaign

Iroha spoke from his base in Texas, United States, moments after captain Rodrigo Hernández lifted Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title, describing the triumph as thoroughly deserved.

“Spain were fantastic in the World Cup. They were obviously the best team of the tournament, and I’m not surprised that they won,” Iroha said when Completesports.com contacted him shortly after the final whistle.

“Right from the start of the tournament, Spain demonstrated their intention and readiness for the challenge. They won six of their matches in regulation time and two (against Switzerland and Argentina) in extra time, demonstrating their strength and quality.

Iroha: Spain Earned Their Moment of Glory

“They were compact, fluid and never lost concentration or focus, regardless of the opposition. Besides, they scored goals while maintaining a disciplined back line.

“For me, fate would have been cruel to them if they hadn’t won the trophy after playing so well throughout the tournament, scoring 14 goals and conceding only one.

“I must congratulate them. They played so well to deserve the title, and I’m happy for them.”
