President Bola Tinubu has observed that social life in Abuja, the nation’s capital, was gradually returning, while criminal hideouts were disappearing.

He attributed the development to good governance that delivers security, mobility, and dignity, just as he applauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for delivering on the assignment he gave him to make Abuja a true capital city.

Speaking on Friday in Abuja, when he commissioned the Collector Road CN2 from Arterial Road N16 to Arterial Road N20, including ILS. 5, in Katampe District, the President, who was represented by his deputy, Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the road would cushion the daily struggle of the citizens.

“My fellow residents of Abuja, we did not stop at the road. We installed solar streetlights. Today, Katampe is safer at night. Abuja’s real life is coming back. Criminal hideouts are disappearing. That is what good governance delivers: security, mobility, and dignity,” he declared.

The Nigerian leader highlighted the significance of the road, noting that it “links Katampe and Mabushi Districts and connects them to major road networks.”

Stating that the road and other ongoing infrastructural development were a testament to his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the President declared categorically that Nigeria was working again.

He said the road cuts through homes, markets, and businesses, easing the daily struggle of the people, as there would be no more hours lost in gridlock, dust in the dry season, and mud when it rains.

“Indeed, this road is a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda. Nigeria is working again. The economy we met was gloomy. Today, you see transformation. A road like CN2 is more than concrete. It is hope. It tells every Nigerian that the government can deliver. It tells our youth that this country belongs to them.”

The President lauded the FCT Minister’s performance, noting that he knew the former Rivers State governor’s track record before giving him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital.

“Wike, you have not disappointed Nigerians. From abandoned roads to new boulevards, from water projects to judicial quarters, you work day and night. You do not give excuses. You give results. The people of the FCT call you “Mr Project” for a reason. Well done,” he praised the minister.

The Nigerian leader thanked the people of Katampe and Mabushi districts for their patience during the construction of the road, and for believing in his government, even as he said Renewed Hope was not a slogan but the road they were seeing, the light on their street, and the time they now save.

To sustain the rapid infrastructural development across the FCT, Tinubu implored all residents to pay their taxes and clear their ground rents, pointing out that “government cannot do it alone.

“Support your community. Protect this infrastructure. Do not turn the walkways into markets. Do not vandalise the streetlights. If you see destruction, report it. This road is yours. Guard it for your children,” he charged them.

Earlier, the Minister of the FCT said that while no country or society could progress or develop without infrastructure, it remained one of the key pillars and backbone of governance.

He urged residents to continue performing their civic responsibilities by paying taxes and ground rents, as well as protecting the legacy projects executed by the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister also thanked the President and Vice President for providing funding and leadership support for the betterment of FCT residents and the nation at large.

Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, described the development in Abuja as a remarkable milestone delivered by the FCT Minister under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
