The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disclosed that it is in the final stages of consultations for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), granting its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, broad powers to nominate key campaign officials.
The party said the move is aimed at ensuring inclusiveness, cohesion and effective coordination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Monday by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the NDC said Obi and Kwankwaso have already held several consultations with the party’s national leadership and other stakeholders on the composition of the campaign council.
According to the party, the presidential candidate and his running mate will nominate the Director-General of the campaign, Deputy Director-General (North), Campaign Spokesman, Deputy Spokesman, Head of New Media, Finance Director, Deputy Finance Director and other principal officers, in consultation with the party leadership.
The statement noted that a comprehensive organogram for the campaign structure had been developed since August and forwarded to both candidates for their input, while nominations from stakeholders across the country had also been received.
“The party leadership has given a free hand to the presidential candidate and his running mate to make nominations for key positions in the campaign structure,” the statement said.
The NDC further explained that campaign funds would be managed jointly by officers nominated by the presidential candidate and his running mate alongside the party’s National Treasurer to ensure transparency and accountability in compliance with the Electoral Act.
It added that arrangements for campaign funding and fundraising were being concluded and that all funds raised would be paid into the presidential campaign account.
The party revealed that the inauguration of the PCC, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed due to the travel schedule of the presidential candidate.
While appealing for unity among party members, the NDC urged candidates, supporters and affiliated groups to avoid internal disagreements and focus on securing victory at the polls.
“There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the party has directed all state and local government area chairmen to immediately commence the collation and harmonisation of party agents for the forthcoming elections.
Under the directive, state and LGA chairmen are to compile two separate lists of agents—one for National Assembly elections and another for governorship and state assembly elections.
The lists, the party said, would be scrutinised and ratified by the leadership, including Obi and Kwankwaso, before the commencement of training.
The exercise is expected to be concluded within two weeks.
The committee overseeing the appointment of party agents is chaired by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Comrade Babatunde Alli, with Vin Martin Ilo serving as secretary. Other members include Dr Yunusa Tanko, Nafiu Dankura and the National Vice Chairmen representing the six geopolitical zones.
