Osun APC calls on EFCC to freeze alleged N13.7bn ghost workers accounts

Date:

The Diaspora Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship Campaign Council in Osun State has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately freeze bank accounts allegedly linked to a reported N13.7 billion ghost workers’ salary scheme in the state.

The committee made the call in a statement issued on Friday in Osogbo by its Secretary, Tunmise Ajiboye.

It alleged that a consultant engaged by the state government in 2023 to conduct a workforce audit uncovered irregular salary payments amounting to about N13.7 billion annually.

According to the group, the audit reportedly revealed cases where salaries of multiple workers were paid into a single bank account.

The committee urged anti-corruption agencies to act swiftly to prevent the alleged diversion of public funds, insisting that the money could be used for political activities ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

It also expressed concern over what it described as the continued silence of relevant anti-corruption agencies since the alleged discovery, calling on both the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to launch a thorough investigation into the matter.

The group further urged foreign missions, including those of the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, to consider imposing visa restrictions on individuals allegedly connected to the matter pending the outcome of investigations.

The APC Diaspora Committee also reviewed the performance of the current administration, noting that it had assessed various projects across the state and would continue mobilising support for its governorship candidate ahead of the poll.

It expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the forthcoming election, while encouraging Osun indigenes in the diaspora to invest in the state to boost economic development and reduce unemployment.
