Nigerian innovator to showcase AI governance chatbot at African Youth SDGs Summit

Date:

A Nigerian civic-tech innovator, Jare Tiamiyu, is set to showcase an artificial intelligence-powered governance chatbot and a grassroots accountability project at the African Youth Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from 23 to 25 June.

Mr Tiamiyu, the Executive Director of the Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development (IICSD) and Team Lead of the Osun Open Local Government Project (OsunOpenLG), is part of the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) delegation attending the summit, where he will showcase how civic technology is reshaping citizen engagement and local governance in Nigeria.

His presentation will spotlight OsunOpenLG and Amòye, an AI-driven civic engagement chatbot described by IICSD as Nigeria’s first artificial intelligence tool designed specifically for open governance, citizen participation, and local government administration.

Amòye: AI for civic education and engagement

A key highlight of the presentation will be Amòye, launched in October 2025. The platform provides citizens with simplified access to information on local governance structures, public institutions, civic rights, and accountability mechanisms.

Since its launch, it has been expanded to include civic education on electoral processes, helping users better understand electoral laws and democratic participation.

According to IICSD, Amòye was developed to reduce the information gap between citizens and government institutions and to encourage greater participation in democratic processes at the local level. The organisation adds that the chatbot uses artificial intelligence to make governance information more accessible and understandable, thereby strengthening transparency and civic awareness.

Strengthening grassroots accountability

The OsunOpenLG project operates across Osun State, where it supports community outreach, governance advocacy, transparency scorecards, and citizen-led monitoring of public institutions.

It is designed to bridge the gap between citizens and local government authorities by improving access to information and creating structured channels for public engagement.

At the summit, Mr Tiamiyu will outline how the project has deployed civic technology and social accountability tools to strengthen participation in governance at the grassroots level, particularly in underserved communities.

Continental dialogue on youth and governance

The African Youth SDGs Summit convenes young leaders, policymakers, development practitioners, and civil society actors from across the continent to exchange ideas and accelerate progress towards the United Nations SDGs.

IICSD said Mr Tiamiyu’s participation offers OsunOpenLG a continental platform to share its experiences and impact, while positioning Nigeria’s civic technology innovations within wider African conversations on youth leadership, democratic accountability, and sustainable development.

The organisation also noted that his selection under the NYFF delegation reflects growing recognition of youth-led governance and innovation initiatives across Africa.

IICSD’s commitment

IICSD reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive governance, strengthening citizen participation, and advancing solutions that enhance accountability and transparency at the grassroots level.
