Anyaegbudike said: “We continue to look at the Nigerian content as the way to go. We promote indigenous participation in the industry. Every year, Chevron has spent one billion dollars to ensure that we face all the issues that concern Nigeria.

“And some of the big names that you have heard in the recent past who are Nigerian companies that have started making it in the industry came out from some programmes of Chevron.

He said: “We deeply appreciate the role of the media as agenda setters. As a training ground and a trusted source of information, we are also looking at you as very important partners who are promoting transparency, accountability and information dialogue in issues that relate to the oil and gas industry.

“So we recognise the complexity of the society and the energy industry where we operate, and we are not taking this training for granted. Your contribution has helped not only to deepen the public understanding of opportunities, but also to showcase some of the challenges that we have in the energy industry. So at Chevron, we believe strong relationship building and partnerships are built on mutual respect and continuous engagement.

“This is why we continue to engage with the media, and that underpins the long-standing partnership that we have with the Nigerian media community. And so, as part of our commitment to ensuring that we build this research with the media. We look at the training of the media practitioners as very important.

“We thought that it is important for us to advance this particular programme by involving many more people to participate, because in Pan-Atlantic, they can only take 12 people or so for one programme. So we have decided to move things around the country, and then we have, in the past four years, gone to Abuja, Asaba, Warri and Lagos.”
