FC Barcelona has expressed its condolences to club legend Lionel Messi following the death of his father, Jorge Messi.

The club’s President and Board of Directors, on behalf of the entire Barcelona family, mourned the passing of Jorge Messi and extended their deepest sympathies to the Messi family.

In a statement on X on Saturday, Barcelona acknowledged Jorge Messi’s role in entrusting the club with the early and most successful years of his son’s football career.

“FC Barcelona thanks Jorge Messi for his commitment to our Club, for entrusting us with the beginnings and the most glorious years of his son Leo’s football career,” the club said.

Jorge Messi was closely involved in his son’s football journey, particularly during the formative years that preceded Lionel Messi’s emergence as one of the greatest players in Barcelona’s history.

The Catalan club also paid tribute to Jorge Messi’s connection with the institution and his contribution to the early stages of his son’s remarkable career.

“May he rest in peace,” Barcelona added.
