Police arrest 10 suspected criminals in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command had arrested 10 persons for involvement in criminal activities in some parts of the state.

‎The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Felix Ohagwu, who paraded the suspects at the headquarters of the command on Monday, said the suspects were arrested for robbery and violence while dangerous weapons were recovered from them.

‎According to him, the robbery suspects included Promise Daniel (34), Ifeanyi Umahi (29) and Adaramoye Abayomi (37).

‎Ohagwu said, “Following a painstaking intelligence-led operation by operatives of the command. The arrest was made in connection with an armed robbery case initially reported on 14th June, 2026, at Iju Division, Ita-Ogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area.

“Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, the operatives intercepted the suspects while they were travelling in a Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV (ash colour).

‎”Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate that has been on the command’s watchlist for alleged involvement in violent robberies across Ondo State.”

‎The police boss added that during interrogation, the suspects made useful confessional statements regarding the ownership of the recovered weapons and other criminal activities.

“The information provided is currently assisting investigators in tracking down other fleeing members of the gang and uncovering the full extent of their operations,” ‎Ohagwu said.

‎Ohagwu also stated that the remaining seven suspects were arrested following a deadly confrontation over a land dispute at Kajola area of Odigbo Local Government.

‎‎Ohagwu said, “The incident occurred on Saturday, 18th July, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m., at a farmland in Adegbiji, via Kajola, Ondo State. Preliminary investigation revealed that the dispute involved Akinsulu Titus and Ajani Abiodun, both of Ayetoro via Kajola, who are parties to an ongoing land matter before the High Court sitting in Ore.

‎”Findings indicate that both parties arrived at the disputed farmland accompanied by groups of supporters, including commercial motorcycle riders and three individuals alleged to be soldiers, who are currently at large. The disagreement reportedly stemmed from allegations of the destruction of palm trees and other economic crops before it degenerated into a violent confrontation during which both principal parties sustained varying degrees of injuries and their clothing was torn.”

‎Some of the weapons recovered from all the suspects, according to the CP, are guns, charms, cutlasses, acid among others.

‎He said all the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations into the cases.
