The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State is hopeful that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will restore Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo and his running mate to the list of candidates for the 2027 governorship election if their exclusion resulted from an error.

The party’s Kano State chairman, Hussaini Isah Mai Riga, said the NDC had reported the matter to its national leadership, which had contacted INEC for clarification.

According to him, the electoral commission has agreed to investigate the omission and determine whether it was a mistake.

“We have written to our National Secretariat and they have escalated it also to INEC. INEC said it will investigate that if it’s a mistake, of course, it will restore our candidates’ status. So we are now waiting for their response,” Mai Riga said.

Gwarzo, the state’s deputy governor, and his running mate were omitted from INEC’s final list of Kano governorship candidates, raising questions about the NDC’s participation in the 2027 election.

The development has prompted the party to seek an explanation from the electoral body, with its leadership hoping the investigation will resolve the issue.

Mai Riga’s statement indicates that the NDC is waiting for INEC to establish the reason for the omission before deciding on its next course of action.

The commission’s findings will determine whether the two candidates can be reinstated if the exclusion is confirmed to have resulted from an administrative or other error.
